At the Penrith Regional Gallery Zine Fair! It was such an incredibly fun day! I almost completely piked on my table(thanks Leigh for manning our stall) in order to spend time with my internets friend Jade and her super adorable behbehs! I could not contain myself for joy! I also missed out on the marvelous Sue Pedley’s artist talk because I was busy playing with behbehs. Sue said she was disgusted and would never speak to me again. Then she said she was joking and just wanted me to write it on my blog. When I said I would, she took everything back. She was kind of the most amazing mentor, helping out Leigh and I when we were in bumping in panics!
Speaking of Leigh, he and I dressed like Vince and Howard from the Mighty Boosh(I am Vince, Leigh is Howard ) in our Zine Fair uniforms. It turned out that Gallery Manager, Anne Loxely also wore Khaki, so we got a snap all together, after Leigh stuck an imitation Leigh Rigozzi ghoul on her sleeve(crafted from felt by me!)!
It was such an amazing day, coinciding with the herald article, Leigh and I and Rah were sort of famous for the day, and the attendance of various friends made it so incredibly fun! Being located in the gorgeous heritage gardens of the gallery made it really chilled out and it was kind of the funnest-est zine fair I’ve ever been to!
Many thanks, of course, to the lovely Jade for snapping this photo which I really feel sums up how I feel about the whole exhibition experience. It was a LOT of hard work, but it was certainly rewarding, and I really appreciate everyone who has helped and also everyone who has visited!
If you haven’t, yet, I sent out another shipment of cards for the shrine of happiness!
Attn: world. We’re going to be rocking out at the Penrith Regional Gallery this Saturday! Do come, it’s going to be a most excellent day!
ps. we’re in the local press and on Sat, we(Me, Leigh and Rah rah) will be in Spectrum, in the Herald. Photos and loads of potentially embarrassing stories!!!
I had a little surprise tea party with some of my friends Linda and Fran from the Australian Blythe Message Boards in my yard yesterday. We had an amazing feast of snickerdoodles and bruschetta and rose tea and lamingtons, and I got to bust out my new amazing 3 tiered stand!
Fran brought a Velvet Minuet from Linda, and I named it Helen! I have a Fancy Pansy named Francesca, who I named after Fran! So sweet and narcissistic!
The neighbours were out the front having their Christmas in July “street party” while we were out the front taking some of these snaps, and we provided them with some entertainment.
Also, Linda is going to be on the ABC tv show “collectors”, showing off her Blythe collection and doing some customising! She’s a bit shy, but the rest of us know she will be an awesome spokesperson!
In other news, my little tea for two blythe, seen below wearing a giant red hair bow is currently having “Imogen Love Week” as I felt she was a much neglected doll. This goes to explain why I’ve been taking her everywhere on my regional tours, and taking photos every day!
After it’s successful launch on Friday night at the Workshop Showroom, Fly Away Bird is ready to be sold to the big old world! I’m also open to trades, wholesale etc, so feel free to contact me, miss . helen at gmail.com

You know every few months, how I get really blog enthused for a while, and then I get over it? I’m feeling as though it is time.
Here is a snapshot from my little herb garden. Mary, Mary, quite contrary indeed.
We were going to throw them out, cus Mary’s head fell off, but I thought they would be nice garden ornaments. I need all the gardening help I can get.
Here’s what I’ve been to in the past few weeks:
* Camera Obscura
They played at the Annandale, which seemed like an odd venue, but the sound was pretty good. I got me and my friends near a small shelf near the sound desk, where we could stand during the show. It started off slow and quiet and got to be quite rocking toward the end, which was so amazing.
* The Evens
At Glebe Town Hall. It was small and amazing. Kind of embarassing, when Ian Mackaye would sing looking right at you, but also beautiful. I couldn’t see that much, because of a million boys taking photographs.
ps. What is with people taking photographs all the way through the show? Did you come to enjoy music, or to take photos? I am thinking the latter. You do not need a million snaps. You do not need to have taken the perfect picture. You can’t all be professionals or from the street press(different things) Jeez. Take a couple and then be a punter. Stop blocking the view, you’re distracting.
Other disturbing moments included the boy who got his friend to take a photo of him(in the front row) in front of singing Ian Mackaye. And the boy who was groping Ian’s guitar in an incredibly sexual manner afterward, and his female companion who was photographing it.
Other than that whinging, the show was pretty amazing.
* Always
Played at the Barber shop in Darlinghurst. It was so small and amazing. One of the owners encouraged me to sit behind Alex, on the stair leading to the backroom, and it was so fantastic! I could watch Alex AND my friends watching Alex! So glad he’s in Sydney.
* Mardi Gras (It kind of sucked, on account of it feeling like a nihilistic party, but there were really beautiful moments, like the young queer girls in bicycles(ie. not dykes on bikes),
* Don’t Need You
The anarchist bookshop on Paramatta Rd in conjunction with Scooter showed this, and it was amazing. Loads of my girl gang turned out, and it was tops!
And today I’m off to the Ailing Festival. Yay! There’s so much going on!
Cupcakes for little Sarah! Her birthday party was amazing. She got so many new ponies, and Alex and Jack and I ate all of the cheese. Then we scoffed the cupcakes. Then the girls danced in the living room. I accidently spilt someone’s cup of passion pop, which was amazing as I was not drinking. I tried to sip a little, but alas, I was just not into it.
The children went out to party into the night, and the adults went home to play scrabble and drink tea.
Current obsessions:
* Asking huge muscly men for directions
* Ice cream for meals
* Pinkxpink stripes
* Alex Vivian being in the same city as me.
* Making cupcakes for Rah’s birthday!!!
* Hommous with peanut butter rather than tahini
* Midnight snacks of said hommous
* Tetris clone even though it is bad an anxious making!
* Future plans.
* Delicious smelling lush bath.
* Girl Gang.
* Meditating.
* Dolls(always).
So, I got a new doll for Christmas. Thanks to the parcel guy’s inability to get out of his van, she spent christmas at the post office, and I couldn’t make it there until the Tuesday after, so my other dolls decided to pretend that Christmas had never happened, and threw her a tea party.
My doll family is kind of multiplying out of control rather like a western Sydney family, aside from the fact that I am only out of control with plastic things, rather than babies who will grow up into people, thank christ.
Anyways, my new girl is named Imogen, she is a t42 ebl and I love her solemn face to bits! Now, on to the Tea Party, click to make big.
Snapped with my sweet macbook’s camera. It is a picture which my sweet friend Nick T drew of me, drawing a cupcake, for him. Click on the photo for notes.
The purpose of this post, is, hopefully, without bragging, to convey how much better life is this year, as opposed to last.
I never really fully understood how environment affected people, until I stopped hanging around in Penrith, and started hanging around in the city, with my friends, and met new and wonderfuller people, and did more amazing things.
World is just so interesting, sometimes, for example, last week I found myself at at UTS exhibition put on by my friend Vanessa’s class(for want of a better word), which involved Vanessa running an op shop, wherein you could “buy” things by writing a short story about them. Tim had a display of slides on a microfische and there were other fun things, like a listening booth and photo displays. It’s really cheesy, but I am so proud and inspired by my friends. I’m also proud of Leigh who had an exhibition in a gallery in Rozelle, but I think I wrote something about that before. Photos here.
And today I spent the day with my friend Mel, who brought me an outfit to wear, just like doll! She leant me her Baby the Stars Shine Bright jumperskirt and metamorphose blouse. I also wore some white high heel shoes, but not for long. I am not so good at being a proper lady/loli.
In closing, world= not so bad.
It’s been SO LONG since I have left Sydney, properly, and I’ve found out that this year, after 10 years of zine production, I’m going to the Newcastle writers festival! More details to come, but I am very excited about:
* Newcastle friends!!!
* Noodle Paradise!!!!
* Long train ride!!!
In other news, I have a new doll!, My friend Leigh is exhibiting his art in Rozelle, and as always, all of these things are documented more fully on my flickr, as opposed to being written about here. Hmph. Don’t you love it when bloggers blog about not blogging?
This used to be a proper website, now it is merely a blog. Miss Helen makes zines and blogs and designs knitting patterns, takes digital photographs, wear froofy dresses but doesn't document these things nearly enough. Hey if you need to know my email address is miss.helen at gmail dot com
