Some friends of mine have started a web zine. They launched it on the weekend with a very cozy and mellow autumny afternoon backyard show in Annandale. I am linking to them because I love them.
Check it out. I think they are going to be organising more afternoon backyard shows, which are so much better than pub shows because of:
* fresh air.
* you can sit in the yard and knit or read while the band plays if you don’t feel like dancing.
* it isn’t so loud that you can feel bits of your brain dying.
* You’re more likely to talk to people you don’t know when you’re in someone’s backyard than if you’re in a dark pub.
* BBQs are always good.
* If you’re suburban you don’t have to secure overnight accomodation because the show wont run till all hours.
Don’t forget: Support local stuff. \m/ Because without it, your town will suck, and your friends will move to other towns that don’t suck, and you will be lonely.

Isn’t he the most amazing new friend ever? My friend Amber Carvan, who incidently has a brand new spiffy, shiney craft blog, made the bluebird for me.
Amber has been making the most amazing stuffed toys lately, and I am in awe of her ability, and also her tiny, perfect stitches!
I love bluebird so much. He came out to a backyard show, and then an art school party on the weekend and charmed many important persons(with me explaining his name and role in life quite importantly). He asked if he might drink some beer, but I said no. He wasn’t allowed even imported beer. He is too young.
The bluebird of friendyness is a symbol of people-ing one’s world with friends who are highly loveable and worthy of being loved. Thankyou Amber, I really, really love bluebird of friendy-ness.
