Hi guys. It took me, like, two weeks from the opening to recover, but here I am with my report on my debut art installation, “The Girl’s Room”(it’s a part of an exhibiton called “The Zine Factory” which showcases my work, aka Miss Helen, and the work of Leigh Rigozzi, who makes amazing comics and vinyl cut outs).
I had aimed to make the room quite cozy, and a good reflection of how I see my relationship with zines, it’s a super personal art form and my installation represents the bedroom, it’s a very personal place, and it’s also the center of production for my zine empire!
The opening was really amazing, despite the fact that we were still finishing off the catalogue an hour before the launch(but let’s do never speak of this again), and there was trackwork on the western line, however, loads of my favourite humans made their way out to the gallery to visit my very first installation!!
It’s been 2 weeks now, as I said before, and I really do miss “my” room. A lot of my personal stuff is out there, and it feels so homely and nice. However, this weekend is the Penrith Regional Gallery’s Inaugural Zine Fair.

I think everyone I know got in trouble for touching the installation. They kept confiscating my vodkie, which was redonkerlous as Leigh and I spent the past couple of days having a picnic on the floor on the offcuts from the curtains.

I’m too exhausted to write anything more just now, but my first exhibition was launched yesterday, titled “The Girl’s Room”, which is a mixed media installation, at the Penrith Regional Gallery and Lewer’s Bequest, which will be there until the 14th October. It’s about zine art and bedrooms, a part of the Zine Factory exhibition which also includes the work of my friend Leigh Rigozzi who gets pissed off when he googles himself and finds my images when I mention him in blogs/flickr/whatever, as well as a group show of other zine art.
This photo shows me and Rah Rah and the giant rabbit. I am punching her in the face for daring to question my wisdom and pretty much telling her to shut up and look pretty.
Thanks so much to everyone who came out to Penrith, friends and family, those who couldn’t make it but wanted to, and to the staff and volunteers at the gallery for their help and support, especially to Jack, the german shepherd!
It’s such an amazing venue and exhibition, and there’s going to be a zine fair on the 1st September(more here and here-two sides of the flyer). I want to write more about how I feel, but now I must sleep!

August 8th, 2007 Final Countdown

Final Countdown

There is now under a week before we begin to install for The Zine Factory, at the Penrith Regional Gallery with Leigh Rigozzi, and although I know I’m going to get everything done, I cannot help but feel exhilarated/panicked.
I didn’t realise that preparing for a major art exhibition was so much like a major sporting event. I’m laid up and resting with a bandaged wrist for the night, before I solder(sic) on tomorrow morning with a highly structured day of knitting small animals and drawing pictures of my installations for the catalogue!
But now, I’m knocking off for the night, as per my coach-esque advice above.
