October 23rd, 2007 Post-holiday Monday

I was so cranky, yesterday, after finishing my holiday at Sam’s seaside mansion on the central coast(a weekend and a bit of bike riding- on STM’s mother’s really deluxe bicycle, swimming in the ocean and talking about ice cream), and being confronted with the cruel reality and mundanity of everday life(it’s really not that bad, but it was a really hot day), so I threw my camera and 2 dolls into my bag(not pictured) in an attempt to make the day better. Here are some pictures which I took.
BeautySundae on MondayHurry!
1. At work, I fell quite in love with this catalogue in the back of “the courtship of animals”. I love the fonts and the colours. It’s so beautiful and it makes me remember even though many books are ugly, I’m really lucky to have a job where I’m exposed to different eras of design and a boss who also appreciates such nice things. 2. After work and cog, I met Fiona at Ice and Slice and we had a Sundae on Monday. We obliterated that sucker. If you click on the photo, you can see how thoroughly we scraped out the little pot of chocolate sauce. We then ate our way up King Street in a memorial of when we worked at the bookshop and we’d meet after work for sushi and then a brownie, but because we’re grown ups, we decided to have ice cream for dinner and sushis for dessert. It’s how we fly. 3. I mailed some things in the post box we used to use at the shop, and was pleased that that sticker was still there! It’s so cute! *ahem*

October 10th, 2007 More locals trying to mess with this bmx bandit….

This morning I went for a cycle before getting down to my business of works I have to get done at home to get my blood pumping and encourage the production of energy etc, and I had a quite pleasant ride, riding around streets in my town that I never go down because I have no reason to. On the way back down the hill to home, I saw a magpie sitting rather close to the road on a branch, and I slowed down to check out what was going on, and as I got closer, it started to swoop at my head! So I stopped my bike and looked it in the eye and it flew back to its perch. I’d read and heard about magpies swooping(like of people crashing, going down a hill really fast and falling off trying to avoid being swooped and breaking bones!), but this was only the second time it has happened, the other time was when I was on my way to teach a workshop at the Penrith Regional Gallery, and I thought it was just angry westie birds, but alas, birds of the shire are also angry at this time of year. Anyway, I’d always heard that people draw eyes on their helmets to deter birds, so I thought if I looked right at it, it would do the same thing, and it worked! So I did it again, and it kept staring and looked as though it was going to swoop again, so I waved my arms and made hissing noises at it, and slowly rode on.
Gosh, the mean streets!

October 9th, 2007 DO NOT TRY TO FUCK WITH THE GIRL ON THE PINK AND WHITE BMX WITH AN ODEKO DOLL IN HER BASKET.

Riding along Loftus Ave(ie the road outta town), there were three teenaged boys standing on the footpath, and they moved aside as I got closer, and I felt really uncomfortable about them being there, so I slowed way down and saw they were holding water bombs, so I got off my bike and pushed and when I got closer, I walked right at them, and said “Are you planning on throwing those water bombs at me?” and they said “Yeah, huh huh” and I made scathing eye contact with each of them but held it the longest with the one that looked the bravest, and said “That would NOT be funny, do NOT do it” and they just stared and pretended to throw them and I said “DON’T”, in my bed calm assertive pack leader voice, and firmly believing that they wouldn’t even though I was fully prepared for them to throw them at me, and god knows what I would have done, possibly yelled at them and written letters to their parents(they were out the front of their house!), and continued walking until I was sure they weren’t going to throw them at me, and I kept turning around and giving them dirty looks.
This really happened, I was so proud.

I’m home from TINA(this is not art, a festival in Newcastle for young writers, artists, post grad students and loads of other things that I’m not really sure about). It was painful, fun, frustrating, pleasant, annoying, upsetting and lovely, all at different times.
This is Vanessa and I sitting in the park with my helium balloons. Vanessa is typing on a typewriter and I am dressed as a cowboy.
